Biography

“Christina Dragnea sang and acted her way into my heart,” are words that the press has used to describe the budding 25-year old Czech-American soprano, Christina Dragnea.

Dragnea began her studies of classical voice in 2011 with former Metropolitan opera soloist, Louise Wohlafka. She began her university studies in 2014 at the Jacobs School of Music under the tutelage of Teresa Kubiak and Patricia Stiles. After graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor in Music in voice degree in 2018, Dragnea continued her Masters studies at the same institution, graduating with a Master of Music in voice degree in 2020.

Dragnea has a passion for exploring diverse and various repertoires. For the University Gilbert and Sullivan Society at Indiana University, Dragnea has sung roles including that of “Casilda” in The Gondoliers. Internationally, she performed the roles of “Second Lady” and “Second Spirit” in The Magic Flute with Lyric Opera Studio Weimar in 2019. While in Germany, Dragnea also performed works from Der Freischütz and Carmen with the Thüringer Symphoniker orchestra in Rudolstadt. Dragnea’s professional solo credits include the role of the “Nurse” in the 2019 production of Don Freund’s new musical theatre work, Star-Cross’d Lovers.

Throughout her university and professional career Dragnea has received several awards for artistic excellence including the Premier Young Artist Award (Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, 2014) and the Mavis McRae Crow Music Scholarship (Jacobs School, 2018).

Dragnea is currently pursuing a second Master of Music in opera studies at the Royal Conservatory of Liège in Belgium. Upcoming artistic engagements include the title role of “Pamina” in Lyric Opera Academy Weimar’s production of Die Zauberflöte, currently planned for August 2021.
